Insurance notice of cancellation? sometimes due to an illness or a lengthy vacation, your Insurance bill gets overlooked and then your policy is cancelled. Within most policies, there is something called “Third Party Designee”. This Designee can be a neighbor, friend or relative that will also receive a cancellation notice in the mail the same time one is mailed to you. Most Insurance Companies offer this service at no additional cost. It’s a nice way to prevent Insurance cancellations.
With the rainy season here, our office is experiencing an increase in clients calling in to file a claim. More often than not, clients are not getting the needed information at the scene of the accident. Here is what you should and should not do if you are involved in a car crash.
- Always be sure to write down names, addresses, and license numbers of the people involved.
- Notify the authorities immediately.
- Report the crash to your Insurance Company or Agent ASAP.
- Under no circumstances should you admit liability or authorize any type of repairs.
- Do not discuss your accident with anyone other than a representative of your Insurance Company or Law Enforcement.

A few of us here were talking about how Homeowner’s insurance affects someone who lives or is in the middle of a real estate transaction while a major blaze is happening, such as the Holy Fire. Since we have a pretty good relationship at Friendly Guy Insurance, we thought to give James a call.
We got through to James and he told us that during times like these, Insurance Agent’s are updated frequently as to the status of the fire, and overall binding authority updates are given frequently.
As of today, at 12:45, James told us that due to the gains in containment with the Holy Fire, the non-bind perimeter is being adjusted. James said that a non-bind status means that there cannot be any changes written to a current home policy, and on top of that there cannot be any new business written in these affected areas.
Changes means no changes to any coverage or change of deductibles.
The updated parameters for the non-bind area include:
- North of Santiago Canyon, Live Oak Canyon, and Trabuco Canyon Road.
- South of Interstate 15 and Grand Avenue.
- West of Riverside Drive
- James advised the remaining zip codes that are still affected are: 92530, 92883,92678.
We asked James if there was anything that he recommends thinking about prior to a disaster like a fire that consumers should think about. Freeman said “re-evaluate your deductibles during non-crisis times”. I had a lot of clients that had to evacuate and most of them told me they wished they had more cash on hand and fuel in their cars. Another thing to consider is to ask your current Insurance Company if they offer a free service of spraying fire-retardant foam if their home is at risk. “Our company has state of the art software that notifies us if we have a client that is at risk of the home catching on fire” Freeman said. Our company will send a company out to spray the property. James said the average consumer does not know to ask these questions, that’s why it’s not imperative but crucial you have an Insurance Agent that knows what they are doing. When the you know what hits the fan, the average consumer does not care what the premium is, as long as they are covered.
Thanks alot for the time James, all of us here at French Valley Press always enjoy talking with you.
Automobile Insurance rates are going up, get ready! Most Insurance companies are paying out more in claims than they are taking in premium. Why? Claims are at an all time high due to today’s distracted drivers. Everyone is on their phones and add texting to the equation means more collisions. The 2nd factor is all the new high-tech features on new cars. All the collision avoidance and safety features are embedded in the windshield and bumpers. At the end of the day, it’s costing Insurance Companies more money to repair or replace a vehicle. With all this going on Friendlyguyinsurance.com is still winning new business every day. We are winning against companies like Geico and even Wawanesa.
When talking with a potential new client about auto insurance, I typically hear the words “full-coverage”. Many consumers are under the assumption that if they have full-coverage that they are really fully covered. If you are at fault in a traffic collision, most of the time there will be a law suit. We do live in CA. where everyone is so sue happy. Let’s face it, if you are going to get sued, you are going to be sued BIG; attorneys do not sue just a little. The average automobile law-suit in CA. is around $200,000. So let’s say you have 15/30 bodily injury coverage and you are sued for $100,000. Your insurance carrier will write a check for the $15,000 and wash their hands at that point. Who do you think they will come after for the remaining $85,000? YOU!!! They will come after your assets, equity in your home and even garnish your paycheck up to 25%. So did full-coverage help in this scenario? If your current Insurance Agent is not having these types of discussions with you, perhaps it’s time to find another agent.
What is ADAS- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
ADAS technology creates a circle of safety around the vehicle. Many safety features come from the front-facing camera in the windshield, including lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition.
Why are these systems being used in vehicles?
There are 1.2 million Traffic fatalities globally on an annual basis by far the largest contributor is human error. 90% adoption of ADAS systems could reduce fatalities by 67%. In the United States alone it is projected that with 90% adoption of ADAS in vehicles 33,000 lives would be saved and in China this number rises to 275,000 lives per year.
Currently 6% of the windshields being replaced by Safelite AutoGlass have some type of ADAS feature and this number is expected to double each year in the foreseeable future. The government is pushing for these additional safety features as well as consumer demand for these options.
How does this impact the consumer when a windshield is replaced?
With some of these safety features the cost of the windshield is more expensive as well as a process called “recalibration” is required after the replacement is performed to ensure that the safety features are working properly.
Below are some cash price examples of windshield costs with and without the safety features requiring recalibration. Please keep in mind that these are examples and market pricing may vary:
2014 Ford Taurus
A windshield for a vehicle without ADAS options range from $259.00 and $699 for a Windshield on a vehicle with ADAS options.
2015-2017 Acura MDX
A windshield for a vehicle without ADAS options range from $359.00 and $999.95 for a Windshields on a vehicle with ADAS options.
These prices do not include recalibration charges. Safelite AutoGlass charges $300 but they have seen dealer prices in excess of $2000.
